Emergency Numbers

In case of an emergency, first dial 119 for Medical and Fire Emergencies or 110 for Local Police.

In Tokyo, an English help line is available Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:15pm. When you call 119 (or 110), one of the most important pieces of information needed is your location or the location of the incident. In some cases, the Emergency Service may know your location but donโ€™t assume this is the case. It is quite possible that the incident is different to the callers location, so due care needs to be taken by the Emergency Service.

Then call CIS Abroad US Emergency Phone at +1 413 210 7091 / Emergency Email: emergency@cisabroad.com (you can share this number with your parents). The CIS Abroad emergency phone is used for on-site emergencies across the world, and someone will always be able to answer, as the phone is monitored 24/7.

If this is an emergency that happens during the day (from 8:00am to 8:00pm) - please notify your site director. They will help to guide you through the emergency.

  • CIS Abroad Site Director (Steve): +81-80-1273-7796 or domestically 080-1273-7796
  • 24 hour pharmacies: Most hospitals have 24-hour pharmacies to fill any emergency prescriptions, and convenience stores (conbini) are well stocked in many over the counter medications, but most pharmacies are not 24 hours.  However, here are also a few pharmacies that are located close by CIS Abroad programs in Tokyo:
    • Kotobuki Pharmacy (Akabane neighborhood) Address1 Chome-63-3 Akabane, Kita City, Tokyo 115-0045, Japan
    • Fit Care Mart (Totsuka neighborhood, Yokohama) - open late Address: 3585 Totsukacho, Totsuka Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa 244-0003, Japan
  • Taxis:
    • There are many taxi phone apps that can be the most helpful and up to date regardless of language proficiency. Consider downloading the following: S.RIDE, Uber, DiDi, and GO.
    • You can read more information about taxis here.
  • US Consulate:
The United States Embassy in Japan is located at 1-10-5 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo 107-8420 Japan. Their phone number 03-3224-5000 (in Japan) or 011-81-3-3224-5000 (calling from the US). They are open Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:30pm, except on holidays. In the case of an emergency, calling the number above after business hours will direct you to an Officer on Duty.

If it is a medical emergency, taking a taxi may be the quickest way to get to the hospital
